The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is almost upon us. With thoughts turning to fighting the crowds at the mall, cooking dinner for a large group of loved ones, and football Sundays, it can be all too easy to fall behind on your job search. However, contrary to what some folks believe, those looking for work should not put their job search on hiatus between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. The holidays can be a great time to get ahead in finding new employment.
Employers are actually in their offices now, finishing up projects and looking to get a jump on January 1. With all of the parties and get-togethers that the season brings, it’s a great time for networking with family and friends, or at a holiday gathering sponsored by a professional association. And, with all that holiday cheer, people are happier this time of year, and might be more willing to grant you an informational interview or take time to speak with you over the phone.
Lots of job seekers will be taking a vacation from their job search during this time. For those who keep at it, this can be an advantage. With less competition and pressure for hiring managers to fill spots, your chances of landing a job can be increased.
